Duels, beggars and less savory members of society abounding on all sides. Very amusing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564585184157117409.post-2118080705473220132011-06-21T23:04:04.218-07:002011-06-21T23:04:04.218-07:00I didn't think that a Forsaken would make a go...I didn't think that a Forsaken would make a good narrator, mostly because I thought of them as soulless extensions of the Scourge, except more hateful. Having them on our side seemed like having an enemy at our back

Destron isn't like that. Impartial, meditative, resilient, well-informed and flexible, he is a perfect seeker of truth.quietworldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17886019630346380114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564585184157117409.post-77969302840188061532009-08-03T22:52:44.995-07:002009-08-03T22:52:44.995-07:00Thanks for pointing out the typo; I went ahead and...Thanks for pointing out the typo; I went ahead and fixed it. My presentation of Goldshire definitely took some inspiration from some of the more regrettable behavior seen in that town.

You'll see a more in-depth examination of the Twilight's Hammer in the Silithus section.

Aurelan's quest probably is futile, but there's at least some theological justification for his stance. The Light does apply to all sentient beings, and demons are sentient.

While WoW's (obviously) the main source of inspiration, I also take a lot of cues from real world history and current events. I never really thought of the dwarves as similar to any of the East Asian cultures, but you do bring up an interesting point with strong family units being common to both. I actually got some of the ideas for Stormwind from the United States, though it's a heavily altered adaptation.Destronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08880259350300667791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564585184157117409.post-43859099177443871332009-08-03T10:54:57.418-07:002009-08-03T10:54:57.418-07:00"A good number of the newcomers here in Golds..."A good number of the newcomers here in Goldshire are get[ting?] money from escorting travelers" - minor typo.

"After speaking with Marta I did notice that the streets were filled with young people. Most were busy at their jobs, frequently as porters or peddlers. Others simply loitered and made nuisances of themselves." - this does evoke Goldshire to be sure. A bunch of low level characters running around, dueling, getting naked and dancing, etc. It's not a stretch to translate that game-world phenomenon into the restless youth of the kingdom.

"the valley seized by the Twilight’s Hammer Clan who were vicious even by the standards of the old Horde. More interested in pursuing an ideal of annihilation than in serving the Warchief" - seeds of the future I suppose. The Twilight's Hammer is an interesting group to me, and it looks like they're making a comeback soon if the comic book series continues to tie into the game.

Aurelan’s quest seems all but futile, but I couldn't help thinking of the eredar race and how they were known to all as horrible demons only to later find that they originated as a very good and prosperous race. The existence draenei seems to confirm Aurelan's beliefs at least somewhat.

“I do not believe anything is accomplished by destroying books, even if they are corrupt. One can still learn from them after all. And I believe that you have only yourself to blame if you choose to follow some damnable ideology,” he continued.

“I agree.” - I agree too!

From what I can tell, a lot of your societies are based loosely on real-world examples. The Lorderanians and Dalaranese seem French or Italian or Bavarian some other W. European society with fluffy nobles. The Stromgarders seem almost German or Prussian in their drive. The Ironforge dwarves seemed to have an Asian persuasion based on their more collective attitude and societal focus. The Dark Irons take it further, reminding me of N. Korea somehow with all the talk of the glorious emporer and the blatant lies that are taken as gospel by state officials. That said, I was wondering on your interpretation of Stormwind society. To me they seem somewhere between British and German. Corrupt nobles infighting and undermining the crown, but of course that happens about everywhere that crowns do.Wallynoreply@blogger.com
